How does a cartridge heater work?

A cartridge heater uses an electrical resistance to generate heat. The electricity passes through the resistor, which starts to heat up. The heat is then transferred to the environment or to a fluid that circulates through the cartridge.

The temperature can be adjusted by changing the amount of electricity that passes through the resistor. Some cartridge heaters can also be thermostated to maintain a specific temperature.

What is the purpose of a heating cartridge?

Cartridge heaters are often used to maintain a stable temperature in an environment or system, or to heat fluids or materials. They can also be used to speed up manufacturing or processing by providing a targeted heat source.

They are often used in manufacturing plants, chemical plants, food plants, automotive repair shops, laboratories and other industrial environments. Cartridge heaters can also be used for medical and scientific applications such as sterilization of equipment and materials.

It is important to choose the right cartridge heater to ensure efficient and safe operation of the equipment, as well as a long service life. It is therefore crucial to consider the specific needs of the application when choosing the ideal cartridge.

Temperature: The maximum temperature required for the application should be considered when selecting a cartridge capable of operating at that temperature.

Power: The power required to maintain the temperature must be determined to select a cartridge with sufficient power.

Size and shape: The size and shape of the cartridge should be tailored to the needs of the application to fit the available space and existing equipment.

Corrosion resistance: It is important to choose a cartridge that is corrosion resistant to avoid long-term damage.

Environment: Some cartridges may be used in specific environments, such as high pressure or high temperature environments.

Compliance: It is important to verify that the cartridge selected complies with industry standards and regulations for the intended use.

What are the different types of cartridge heaters?

There are several types of cartridge heaters that vary in application, shape, material of construction and method of temperature control. Here are some examples of the types of cartridge heaters:

Resistance Cartridge Heaters

Most commonly used to maintain a stable temperature in a targeted area.

Fiberglass cartridge heaters

Heat hard-to-reach areas or areas that require increased flexibility.

Hot air cartridge heaters chauffantes à air chaud

Heat air for drying, convection, defrosting and warming purposes.

Induction cartridge heaters

Used for high frequency heating of metals and alloys.

Liquid cartridge heaters

Heat fluids such as oil, water and industrial liquids.

Infrared cartridge heaters

Used for district heating of surfaces and objects.

Strip cartridge heaters

Heats long sections of pipes or pipes.

What are the different power densities of the cartridge heaters?

There are several types of cartridge heaters that vary in application, shape, material of construction and method of temperature control. Here are some examples of types of immersion heaters:

High Density Cartridge Heaters

They have a high power density and are used for applications requiring high power in a small area, such as heating plates and molds.

Low Density Cartridge Heaters

With a low power density, they are used for applications requiring low power over a large area, such as underfloor heating and radiators.

Medium Density Cartridge Heaters

With an intermediate power density, they are used for applications requiring moderate power on a medium-sized surface, such as heat treatment equipment and furnaces.

For which fields of application
